GLOBAL TRAVELS

After completing my education I had made up my mind that I wanted to travel and between working I took a few journeys around Europe which gave me the desire to go further and see the world. After working and saving for a few years I teamed up with a like minded friend and took the necessary procedures to get the journey underway. In August 98 after receiving all the necessary vaccinations we set off by ferry to Holland where we camped for a few weeks then settled into an apartment in the town of Leiden. We picked up work in the bulb industry For a few months to keep the funds flowing before heading south through Germany, Italy, Greece and Turkey. After almost four months in Europe we took a flight from Istanbul to Bombay India.

All in all we spent three months in India travelling all over this different but amazing country finishing up in the north where we entered Nepal. We ventured from the jungles of Chitwan to the heights of the Himalayas for a period of one month then took a flight from Kathmandu to Bangkok. Arriving during the most humid time of the year we spent our time in air-conditioned buildings and on tropical beaches before making the journey south through Malaysia and Singapore and eventually into Indonesia. Starting on the island of Batam we flew to Bali and over the course of one month crossed the islands of Lombok, Sumbawa, Komodo, Flores, Timor and eventually landed in Darwin Australia.

After a few weeks in Darwin we took a three day bus journey to Sydney and rented a house with a group of other travellers from England, Australia, Japan and Canada. We found work in the construction industry for about 6 months then bought a camper van and drove all over the country.
South to Tasmania then back up north through the desert, down the west coast then across the Great Nulabor Plain back to Sydney. I said my farewells to the friends I made including my travel partner and set of alone on a flight to Vancouver, Canada.

Here I teamed up with a Canadian friend whom I met on the journey and we travelled west through the Rocky Mountains and across the parries to his home farm In Saskatchewan. Here I earned my keep for two months being a general farm hand before crossing the Trans-Canada and dropping into Boston USA to meet a friend. I spent about a week here then after a visit to New York finished my journey in Philadelphia where I took a flight back to my homeland after two years on the road.

Since then I have spent 4 months in Germany and 5 months in Norway working and saving for a trip to Japan. I landed in Tokyo where I spent a few weeks trying to take it all in then headed North by ferry to the island of Hokaido where I worked in a hotel for 3 months. I then went south by ferry to Osaka where I stayed for 7 months as a freelance artist taking time out to see the Shikoku prefecture. After a year in Japan I said my fair wells yet again and once again returned to mother England.

To conclude I think that travelling the world was a worth while adventure that I don’t regret at all and I feel it has given me a great understanding of what’s really out there.
